On January 18, 2015, two Swedish Stanford University graduate students peddled across campus when one of them saw something behind a dumpster that caught his attention. At first they thought the couple was engaging in a consensual relationship, but when he didn't see the woman moving, he recalled, "something felt weird."
Concerned they headed toward the dumpster and shouted "Hey" to the guy. He bolted and then one of the students took off after him, tripping him and forcing him to the ground while the other student called 911, stayed with the unconscious woman and waited for help.
The police arrested twenty-year-old Stanford swimmer & sophomore Brock Turner for rape.
For the next year and a half the media covered every angle of the story; the victim, the perpetrator, the university, the hidden culture of rape on American campuses. Though the victim chooses to remain anonymous, the story has been publicized across the nation.
Brock Turner was found guilty on three felony counts: assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person, sexual penetration of an intoxicated person and sexual penetration of an unconscious person.
Turner faced a 10 year maximum prison sentence & must register as a sex offender.
Judge Aaron Persky sentenced Brock Turner to 6 months.
Turner served 3 months behind bars.
